Our team consists of highly trained and experienced professional and technical staff including Physicians, Nurse Practitioners, Social Workers, Recreational Therapists, technicians and managerial staff. We have collaborative relationships with Neuropsychologists, Occupational Therapist (OT), Physical Therapists (PT), Dietician and Speech and Language Pathologist that offers services on or off site. Our BCBA will be available for those patients that will benefit from a functional analysis of behavior. Our friendly and passionate staff has training and experience in Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Trauma (EMDR), Behavioral, Strength Based, and other therapeutic modalities. Psychiatric Evaluations, and Neuropsychological testing are available on site.
Kirk Simon, M.D., Medical Director. Kirk is a triple board prepared psychiatrist. He has worked with children and adolescents for over 15 years specializing in day treatment and residential settings. He helped develop the Medical Consult/Liaison Program at Primary Children’s Hospital and has expertise treating dual medical/mental health diagnoses.
Sherlene Dean, A.P.R.N. Sherlene has twenty years experience working with children and adolescents in outpatient programs providing medication evaluations and management and psychotherapy at Primary Children’s Center for Counseling, University of Utah Child and Adolescent Specialty Clinic and most recently at the UNI HOME Program.
Jane Peterson, L.C.S.W., Clinical Director. Jane has 29 years of experience working with children and families in day treatment and residential settings at Primary Children’s Behavioral Health and The Children’s Center. She has worked with children and adolescents in outpatient settings. Experience includes treating the diagnoses of Autism Spectrum Disorder, PTSD, ODD, ADHD, and anxiety and mood disorders. Jane has been trained in DBT and EMDR.
Colleen Helms, L.C.S.W., Mental Health Therapist. Colleen has worked in residential and day treatment programs as well as outpatient at Davis Behavioral Health. She specializes in treating children with Autism Spectrum Disorders and providing family therapy and parent education classes.
Lara Leishman, Ph.D., Psychologist. Lara has worked with children and adolescents at Primary Children’s Behavioral Health. She also has a private practice providing psychological evaluations and therapy. She provides neuropsychological evaluations.
Jill Sharp, MS, CCC-SLP, Speech Language Pathologist. Jill is excited to join the team at Matt’s Place. She graduated with a Master of Science in Speech Language Pathology from The University of Utah. Jill has several years of experience working with patients across the lifespan, most recently specializing in autism. When not working, Jill can be found playing with her sheepadoodle, reading, or on a vacation.
Bridget Lundy, LCSW. Bridget received her Master of Social Work degree from the University of Utah and a Bachelor of Social Work degree from the University of Portland. She has experience in a variety of outpatient settings working with children, adolescents, families and adults. She specializes in working with individuals with disabilities and she utilizes a variety of clinical approaches including cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavioral therapy, EMDR, and TF-CBT.
Michelle Bouwman, LCSW. Michelle’s experience includes twenty-eight years working with latency aged children and their families in residential and day treatment settings at Primary Children’s Hospital. She has experience in outpatient therapy working with children and adolescents. She has extensive experience working with childhood trauma, attachment disorder, anxiety, depression, and autism. She is trained in DBT and EMDR.
Lori Maughan, OTR/L, Occupational Therapist. Lori has 20 years experience working in pediatrics at Primary Children’s Medical Center as an occupational therapist. She has experience working with a wide range of diagnoses but particularly enjoys working with families and children on the Autism Spectrum. Her area of focus is Sensory Processing Dysfunction and helping families learn to manage their child’s sensory needs.
Jackque Sheppard, Recreational Therapist. Jackque has experience working with children on the autism spectrum at the Carmen Pingree Center. She has also worked with adolescents at Maple Lake Academy and Vista Treatment Center.
Lindsay Bartholomew, Care Manager. Lindsay has worked in the social work and mental health field for the last 12 years. Prior to coming to Matt’s Place, she worked at Davis Behavioral Health as Family Resource Facilitator. Lindsay loves working with families and helping them connect with local resources.
